Muslim Women’s Council supports essential wellbeing service for the community

Hop on is a community organisation providing vital support in Bradford, working on improving physical and mental health through activities such as cycling, yoga and coaching tailored to each individual.

The organisation has been running since 2016 and has 3000 people registered with them. The majority of these women are from a South Asian background; a community in which cycling is the exception, rather than the norm.

Over the last 9 months from the lifting of the last Covid-19 lockdown, an additional 1000 people have registered with Hop On. Every month over 600 women and children engage with Hop On to partake in cycling and walking in Lister Park (Manningham, Bradford).

This clearly demonstrates the interest and need in the community for such a vital service.

The monthly cycling sessions are held at Lister park, with 80 bicycles being stored in one of the storage containers on site to ensure easy access for the service users.

Without any storage for the bicycles on site, Hop On will be unable to deliver their service.

Muslim Women’s Council are acutely aware of the challenges faced by the community during the pandemic, and a service such as Hop On provides vital community engagement, as well as the opportunity to improve physical as well as mental health during such a difficult time.

We fully support Hop On and strongly encourage Bradford Council and those involved to provide the necessary storage facilities so that they can continue to deliver their sessions in the heart of the community.
