STEM Pathways Project

STEM

Muslim Women’s Council are embarking on a new STEM Pathways project which will be delivered by CareBlue Training and Tutoring Services.

At CareBlue Training and Tutoring Services our vision is to offer our learners with personalised tuition packages and courses, delivered by subject specialists.

What is the project?

To enable and encourage young BAME Muslim women (aged 11-19) to explore and engage in educational and employment opportunities across Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths (STEM) career pathways, and we are looking to work with these girls and their mothers.

Why are we doing this project?

There is a cultural belief that only certain higher educational routes and occupations are acceptable and bring respect and pride to the family i.e. doctors, solicitors, accountants etc, and these career choices are embedded in young girls from an early age.

Delivering these activities to parents and girls will help remove potential barriers to girls pursuing new/different opportunities. It will help raise the awareness of Muslim mothers, predominantly from the BAME community, whose education and employment views are stagnated with limitations, to understand the opportunities around higher education and career choice for their daughters, whilst helping girls to become better problem solvers, critical thinkers, and inspirational leaders.

Pathways will enable and encourage Muslim mothers to have the confidence to empower and support their daughters to achieve their full potential and build active independence, by exploring and engaging with meaningful education and employment opportunities across science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) sector subjects, instead of a future of soul destroying days of marriage, stacking shelves or insecure jobs.

How will this project be delivered?

To do this, Careblue Tutoring will be delivering three 30 minute online webinars focusing on experiences and inspirations by BAME women in careers of programmers, engineers, mathematicians, scientists and astronomers.

We will also be delivering three FREE 1 hour online courses, which will take place in July alongside the three webinars. The three courses we will be delivering are:

1) How to think like a Programmer!

Webinar and Course date: 10/07/21

2) How to think like an Engineer!

Webinar and Course date: 28/07/21

3) How to think like an Astronomer/Scientist!

Webinar and Course date: 31/07/21
