This is a new initiative to help those less fortunate across the Bradford District, by providing a free hot curry and drinks on a weekly basis (every Thursday) for homeless/destitute people.
We are requesting restaurants/faith groups to donate food on a rota basis (approximately every three months).
Demand for homelessness prevention and on the District’s statutory homelessness service has increased since 2009. Homelessness can cause a spiral of decline for those individuals and families affected if they are not supported effectively.
More than 140 children in Bradford from 73 families are officially classed as homeless, child poverty in Bradford is highly concentrated in a small number of wards in order of the highest number of children in poverty per ward these were: Bradford Moor, Little Horton, Bowling and Barkerend, Manningham, Tong, Toller, Great Horton and Keighley Central.
“Unfortunately we are seeing an increase in the number of projects serving people living on the poverty line. This is of great concern that our neighbours are going hungry in the 21st Century. Homelessness brings misery and uncertainty to individuals and families and has a negative impact on society.
The Curry Circle is a multi-faith initiative with a great deal of support from local businesses/restaurants from across Bradford, to name a few, Aziz Catering, MyLahore Cafe, Cafe Zoya, Gurdwara, Cafe Patisserie, Council of Mosques, Zouks, Hindu Temple, Prolegis Solicitors, Advanced Mortgages, Craven Computer Supplies, Iqbal Catering, Supa hand car wash”.
“What we’re seeing across Bradford are hungry individuals queuing up for free food, this is a stark contrast to the numbers of individuals forming a queue for the latest play station console”.
