New Zealand had its first police-issued hijab and Zeena Ali is the first woman to wear it.
Ali was originally working in customer service. She decided to join the police following the Christchurch terror attack where 51 people were killed and 40 injured at consecutive shootings at two mosques.
The 30-year-old Muslim woman helped design the head covering for her uniform. She told the Herald
It feels great to be able to go out and show the New Zealand Police hijab as part of my uniform. I think that seeing it, more Muslim women will want to join as well.
