Sarah Everard's murderer sentenced to life in prison

Wayne Couzens, a 48-year-old police officer, was sentenced on Thursday to life in prison for the rape and murder of Sarah Everard in March.

Judge Adrian Fulford ruled that the metropolitan police officer had planned his kidnapping and rape plan and that he had taken action when he met the 33-year-old young woman who was returning alone at home.

He also said that the murder was "devastating, tragic and wholly brutal".

After Couzens’ arrest, it emerged that he had been accused of indecent exposure at least twice before he murdered Everard, and police is being investigated over whether the allegations were dealt with properly.
