A Ramadan like no other

mosque

The novel Coronavirus outbreak has urged multiple countries around the world to introduce extreme measures to limit its fast spreading. Amongst these measures was the prevention of gatherings which meant for Muslims that prayers like Jummah prayer and Taraweeh during the month of Ramadan would not be held at mosques.

Due to these lockdown regulations, congregational acts of worship and collective iftar are prohibited.

But this does not mean the spirit of Ramadan this year is lost. There are multiple ways in which Muslims can celebrate this holy month together as a community while keeping adequate physical distance and staying safe.

It is possible to have iftar meals at home and use video calls to replicate eating with friends and family. Watch streaming of Islamic lectures and enjoy beautiful recitations of the Quran verses. The lockdown is providing Muslims with extra time to worship, assess their spiritual lives, and rethink Ramadan practices.

“This is the perfect time to rediscover the spirit of Ramadan as it is meant to be. A time to appreciate the true blessings of Allah SWT. I pray for you all to have a fulfilling, blessed and healthy Ramadan. May it be the best Ramadan for you and your loved ones, Ameen.” Saadia Mushtaq Executive Administrator at the Muslim Women's Council.
