Despite the Islamophobic attitude and behaviour witnessed on an almost daily basis, Muslims continue to contribute to their communities, pushing them forward.
The UK just had its first Hijab-wearing Muslim judge appointed and it is heart-warming. 40-year-old Raffia Arshad was appointed a deputy district judge on the Midlands circuit. After 17 years of practicing law in different fields dealing with Islamic law issues including private law children, forced marriage, female genital mutilation, Raffia hopes to “make sure the sound of diversity is heard loud and clear and that it gets to the appropriate places.”
Vickie Hodges and Judy Claxton, heads of St Mary’s Family Law Chambers said “It is an appointment richly deserved and entirely on merit and all at St Mary’s are proud of her and wish her every success.”
"It’s definitely bigger than me, I know this is not about me. It’s important for all women, not just Muslim women, but it is particularly important for Muslim women."
