In response to the discovery of sexual exploitation reports from the 1980s during a 2018 Sunday Mirror probe, an independent investigation was launched. The latter found that the police and local administration in Telford, England failed to investigate the perpetrators, resulting in more than a thousand children being sexually exploited since 1989.
The investigation discovered that educators and youth workers were deterred from disclosing child sexual abuse and that police were concerned that looking into some of the Asian individuals who committed the abuse might exacerbate racial tensions.
