Muslims in Cologne, Germany are anticipating to hear the first call to prayer (Adhan) on October 14, according to Turkish-Islamic Union for Religious Affairs (DITIB) Secretary-General Abdurrahman Atasoy, signifying that preparations for Friday prayers have been finalised.
A two-year project had been undertaken by the municipality of Cologne, which has a considerable population of Turks and Muslims, to allow Friday prayers, following which the DITIB asked for permission.
Similar to churches, the call to prayer will be broadcasted between 12 p.m. and 3 p.m. for no more than five minutes at a volume level that will not disturb neighbors.
Over 900 mosques in Germany are associated with DITIB.
