Mosques will be allowed to keep their doors open in England

It has been confirmed by the Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, that places of worship, including mosques, will be allowed to keep their doors open for worshippers despite the new rule of six set by the government.

This new rule came into effect this Monday as the Government calls on the public to remain vigilant in the fight against covid-19.

The new rule applies across England and replaces the existing ban on participating in gatherings of more than 30 and the current guidance on allowing two households to meet indoors.

The new “rule of six” means:

•             Social gatherings of more than six people will not be allowed by law from September 14.

•             The new rule applies to people in private homes, indoors and outdoors, and places such as pubs, restaurants, cafes, and public outdoor spaces.

•             The rule applies to all ages.

•             The rule does not apply to schools and workplaces, or weddings, funerals, and organised team sport.

•             A full list of exemptions is due to be published before the law changes.

People who do not comply could be fined £100 – doubling with each offence to a maximum of £3,200.
