Maimuna Hassan, an A Level student, has secured a spot at Cambridge University, which she was soon denied after receiving downgraded results.
The 18-year-old student had impressive mock grades of A*, A*, A however they were lowered to A*, A, B by exam regulator Ofqual (The Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation).
The student thinks this happened because of placing too much weight on her school’s previous results; Chiswick School, and that some form of classism influenced the standardisation process.
Hassan wrote an open letter to Boris Johnson which was shared on different platforms.
"I am the oldest child of Somali immigrants in a family of six.
Through dedicated hard work, I gained eight 9s, an 8 and two As at GCSE (General Certificate of Secondary Education). The As were in exams I sat early, in Year 9 and Year 10."
"My school has improved with its new leadership and now has subject specialist teachers, but this was ignored by awarding bodies."
The student hopes to use her mock exam results as a foundation for an appeal.
