A Tory MP has proposed a new bill in Parliament that would require schools to allow parents to review sex education lesson plans.
The "sex education transparency" Private Members' Bill was presented by Miriam Cates, MP for Penistone and Stocksbridge.
If the bill is passed, English schools will be required to disclose materials used in Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) sessions with parents, and schools will be prohibited from utilising unpublished materials in case they are developed by a third-party source.
The law comes as the government conducts an urgent review of the explicit sex education material being offered to pupils.
Private Member's Bills are less likely of becoming law than government-introduced bills. They may nevertheless continue to shape public debate, attract focus to particular issues, and influence the course of legislation.
