First Muslim Female Pilot Celebrated in Jamaica

Hassanah Al-Saba obtained her pilot's license on August 29, becoming the first Muslim woman in Jamaica to have the credential. She is being recognized in her homeland and around the world, which the 22-year-old describes as surreal.

Al-Saba took her flight test on August 25 and earned her license four days later. Commercial license training is next on Hassanah's agenda. Holding the license confirmed that all her hard work had paid off and that the first step toward her airline goal had been fulfilled. Her ambition is to one day fly for an airline, and she intends to persevere until she reaches her dream.

Al-Saba said:

“I couldn’t believe that it was me on the TV and in the paper, but it has sunken in and now I really hope that I have inspired others and emulated our motto of ‘Out of Many, One People.’ I’m a proud Jamaican and I hope I can show my people that dreams are within reach.”
