
Zara Mohammed is elected as the first female Secretary-General of the Muslim Council of Britain. The 29-year-old won most affiliate votes against her opponent Ajmal Masroor.
Mohammed is taking up the torch passed on by Harun Khan, who headed MCB for four years.
Following her election, Zara tweeted:

I wish the very best of success to Zara Mohammed - may she continue to lead this organisation to greater heights for the betterment of our communities across the country.
Mohammed said that she wishes more women would be inspired to seek leadership roles.
The Muslim Council of Britain is the UK’s largest and most diverse umbrella body of mosques, Islamic schools and Muslim associations. Affiliates elect a Secretary General and National Council every two years.
