Professor Adeeba Malik CBE DL is the first Asian Muslim Woman of Pakistani heritage to serve as the High Sheriff of West Yorkshire for 2024-25. She was formally inaugurated at Leeds High Court on March 25, 2024.
The office of the High Sheriff is an ancient, non-political Royal appointment lasting one year, dating back to Saxon times. Today, there are 55 High Sheriffs serving counties in England and Wales, supporting law and order, and community initiatives without pay.
Professor Malik, also Deputy Chief Executive of Bradford-based QED Foundation, has been entrusted with this role due to her lifelong commitment to community service, particularly in advancing opportunities for marginalized groups.
Over the past 25 years, Adeeba has held various influential roles in Bradford, Yorkshire, and nationally, spanning ministerial and non-ministerial positions. Her diverse engagements include serving on boards such as Yorkshire Forward, Northern Ballet, and the Home Office Advisory Board for Naturalisation and Immigration.
Currently, she contributes to the Home Office Strategic Race Board and is a Director of the Bradford Culture Company(2025 City of Culture). Adeeba's contributions have earned her numerous awards, including the MBE and CBE, along with recognition in prestigious lists like the Yorkshire Post Top 20 Influential Women and the Top 50 Northern Power List for Women.
Despite her demanding schedule, she remains committed to her passions for music, theater, cinema, and outdoor activities.
