Female pilgrims are no longer obliged to be accompanied by male guardians on Hajj and Umrah

Tawfiq bin Fawzan Al-Rabiah, Saudi Arabia's Minister of Hajj and Umrah, declared that women visiting Saudi Arabia can now complete their pilgrimages ( Hajj and Umrah) without the presence of a mahram, (male guardian).

According to Ahmed Saleh Halabi, Hajj and Umrah Services Adviser, it is currently acceptable for women to go on pilgrimages without a mahram, joined with "trustworthy women or secure company to perform Hajj or Umrah. This is the view of the Maliki and Shafi’i scholars."
