The European Council for Fatwa and Research (ECFR) expressed its concern over a ruling issued by the Court of Justice of the European Union allowing employers to impose a ban of Hijab (Click here for more details).
In a press release, The ECFR stated that this ruling is a disappointment to Muslim women insisting that the " Hijab is not a religious symbol nor is it a provocative behaviour but rather an Islamic obligation and ritual as consensually stated by Muslim scholars."
The ECFR also warned about the implications of this ruling which may prevent Muslim European women "from assuming sincerely an active role in scientific, health, academic, and economic fields in their societies, since they perceive such a ruling violating their religious and human rights secured by all international as well as European conventions"
at the end, the ECFR recommended "Muslims to adhere to dialogues when handling a societal issue, look for commonalities, and discuss differences with patience and long term vision, while observing their rights and responsibilities, cohesiveness of society, and adopting legal channels to secure their rights."
