Birmingham School Mural Honors Britain's First Hijabi Cricketer

Abtaha Maqsood, Britain's first Hijab-wearing cricketer, went to Marlborough Primary School, following a mural's unveiling in an effort to encourage Muslim girls to pick up cricket.

The painting was created to celebrate her securing a contract extension with the Birmingham Phoenix, competing in The Hundred tournament the following month.

Birmingham graffiti artist Lucy Danielle did the painting. Maqsood said:

When I got told about the mural I was not expecting it - I had no idea I had made such a big impact.

Maqsood had a Qustions & Answers session with around 75 girls. It was said that they were inspired seeing someone "looking like them" play.

The cricketer also went to the Al Abbas Mosque in Balsall Heath to show older girls and women how to play.
