Adidas reached out to henna artist Azra Khamissa and presented the concept of designing henna on shoes.
Khamissa, a chiropractor by day, began experimenting with henna designs as a hobby. A few years ago, she posted a picture of her painted hands on Instagram which draw the platform users' attention.
Her hands have been covered in leopard print; she has traced the phases of the Moon from her wrist to the tip of her middle finger; and she has even used her palms as a canvas to take a stand, in addition to putting her own spin on traditional motifs such as the rawayeb (henna on the tips of the fingers) and rubeya (a circle on the flat of the palm).
“Adidas asked me to design three sneakers using henna. It was really fun to use henna on leather, and actually quite challenging. I hope you like them and let me know if you stop by the new Adidas Originals store at the Dubai Mall!” she posted on Instagram.
Khamissa's cooperation with Adidas is not the first time her work has been commissioned by a major corporation.
She teamed with Les Benjamins earlier this year to produce a unique collection.
