In times of uncertainty and pain, the Islamic principle of tawakkul—placing full trust in Allah—offers spiritual grounding and emotional strength. This was powerfully illustrated in the story of Aseel Fteiha, a Digital Engagement Intern at Islamic Relief UK, who reflected on her experience of relying on faith during the devastation in Gaza. Her words serve as a heartfelt reminder of the comfort and clarity that can come from trusting in Allah’s plan, even in the most difficult of circumstances.
Tawakkul is not a passive concept. It involves actively taking steps to help ourselves and others, while wholeheartedly trusting the outcome to Allah. As the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, “Tie your camel and trust in Allah.” This teaching captures the balance between personal responsibility and faith in divine wisdom.
For many of us, especially during times of crisis or grief, tawakkul becomes a vital part of our coping and healing. It reminds us that our struggles are never in vain and that there is purpose behind every challenge—even if it is not immediately visible. Trusting in Allah helps us remain grounded, hopeful, and resilient, even when we feel overwhelmed.
Incorporating tawakkul into daily life means choosing faith over fear, and striving to find peace in the knowledge that Allah is always in control. It is this trust that allows us to move forward with patience, to act with intention, and to maintain dignity through trials.
Aseel’s story is a poignant example of how deeply faith can sustain and guide us. It invites us all to reflect on our own journey, and how we, too, can draw strength from surrendering to Allah’s will—while continuing to do our part with conviction and courage.
