Narrated by Anas bin Malik, the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said, "Whoever plants a tree or sows seeds, and a bird, person, or animal eats from it, will be rewarded as though it is an act of charity."
Caring for the Earth is a meaningful form of worship (ibada), and developing skills like planting, nurturing, and harvesting brings countless benefits.
At Wibsey Community Gardens, we are learning how to make the best use of our gardens, pots, and window boxes. Together, we explore soils, seeds, plants, and organic gardening techniques to deepen our connection to the Earth.
In our first sessions, we discovered the flavors and textures of unfamiliar salad leaves, planted seeds for mooli (radish) and sunflowers, and worked the soil with our henna-decorated hands, reconnecting with nature in a truly hands-on way. We returned home with bags of fresh organic produce, Alhamdulillah.
This initiative is part of the Muslim Women’s Council’s “Our Teen is Green” horticulture project, which nurtures a love for the environment while teaching practical skills and fostering community spirit.
